Spline-Based Waveform Editor Features Reduced CPU Usage and New Licensing System
u-he has released Zebralette 3, a freeware synthesizer built around a single oscillator from Zebra 3. The plugin includes ADSR and MSEG envelopes, two LFOs, a modulation matrix, and delay and reverb effects.
Spline-Based Oscillator
The oscillator uses spline-based waveform editing with tools adapted from vector graphic applications. Users can create and morph between up to 16 curves using various morphing options. Two waveform processing algorithms provide additional sound shaping capabilities.
The audio engine switches between traditional waveform synthesis and additive synthesis modes. While not a wavetable synthesizer, Zebralette 3 can export curve sets as wavetables in WAV format for use in other software.
Performance and Licensing
Version 3.0 reduces CPU usage compared to the beta releases. The plugin introduces u-he's License Card system, with Zebralette 3 serving as a testbed for this authorization method.
Zebralette 3 is available as freeware and provides an introduction to the full Zebra 3 synthesizer environment.
The plugin can be downloaded from the u-he website.
