New XM Family Member Adds Hardware-Style Tube Warmth for Mixing and Creative Applications
Xilentch has announced XMTubePre, a free tube preamp plugin that joins the company's XM series of mastering tools. The plugin provides tube-style warmth and saturation designed to emulate expensive hardware units while maintaining the transparent character of other XM family plugins.
Hardware-Inspired Design Philosophy
XMTubePre follows the XM series design approach of recreating the feel of purchasing expensive hardware equipment. The plugin emphasizes transparency while offering sufficient drive capability for creative applications beyond traditional mastering use.
The tube preamp can function both as a subtle enhancement tool and as a more aggressive creative processor when pushed harder, providing flexibility for different mixing scenarios and artistic requirements.
XM Series Integration
As part of the XM mastering plugin family, XMTubePre maintains consistency with other series members in terms of sound quality and interface design. The plugin expands the XM collection's capabilities by adding tube-style coloration to complement the existing mastering-focused processors.
The company positions XMTubePre as suitable for mixing stage applications, extending beyond the primarily mastering-oriented focus of previous XM releases.
Free Distribution Model
XMTubePre follows Xilentch's free distribution approach, with optional donations supporting development. The plugin requires no payment for full functionality, though users can contribute financially if they choose to support the developer's work.
Format Support and Limitations
The plugin supports AAX, VST3, and AU formats on both Windows and macOS systems. AAX compatibility is limited to Pro Tools version 12.5 and earlier due to PACE licensing requirements. Users with newer Pro Tools versions can access the plugin through VST3 wrappers.
Download links are provided through Google Drive for both Windows and macOS versions. More information about XMTubePre is available on the Xilentch Patreon page.
