UNSTABLE Synth Brings Modern Take on Classic Yamaha CS-80

Dual-Layer Synthesizer Combines Vintage Sound with Contemporary Features

UNSTABLE Synth Brings Modern Take on Classic Yamaha CS-80 - AUDIO PLUGIN NEWS

MORPHOICE has introduced UNSTABLE, a new software synthesizer that draws inspiration from the legendary Yamaha CS-80. While not a direct emulation, UNSTABLE captures the essence of the classic synthesizer while adding modern capabilities and effects.

Advanced Synthesis Architecture

UNSTABLE features a dual-layer synthesis engine with carefully modeled oscillators offering sawtooth, pulse wave, and noise sources. Each oscillator includes adjustable levels and pulse width modulation controls, expanding upon the original CS-80's architecture. The synthesis engine combines a CS-80-inspired high-pass filter with a Moog-style ladder filter, creating distinctive timbral possibilities.

Classic and Modern Features

The synthesizer incorporates a meticulously modeled ring modulator with dedicated envelope controls, emulating one of the CS-80's most distinctive features. A 16-step arpeggiator and ribbon controller provide modern performance capabilities, while the integrated effects section features DarkStar reverb and delay alongside WingMen chorus processing.

Creative Sound Shaping

A dedicated drive circuit adds analog-style warmth and harmonics, helping sounds maintain presence in complex mixes. The combination of vintage-inspired synthesis and contemporary effects processing allows UNSTABLE to produce a wide range of sounds, from classic CS-80 tones to modern electronic textures.

UNSTABLE is currently available as a free beta release for macOS 13.6+ and Windows 10/11, supporting VST3 and AU (Mac only) formats.

More information about UNSTABLE is available on the MORPHOICE website.
