Soniccouture Introduces Flowstate: Transform Field Recordings into Musical Textures

Revolutionary Formant Filter System Brings New Life to Ambient Sounds

Soniccouture Introduces Flowstate: Transform Field Recordings into Musical Textures - AUDIO PLUGIN NEWS

Soniccouture has unveiled Flowstate, an innovative audio processing tool that evolved from their work on Geosonics 2. The concept originated from a technique discovered in 2021, where filter resonance was used to tune field recordings to specific pitches.

From Concept to Creation

The development journey began when the team encountered Ayako Okamura's video demonstrating the use of filter resonance to add pitch to field recordings. This technique was initially implemented in Geosonics 2 presets, featuring dedicated key commands for quick filter pitch adjustments.

The concept expanded into a sophisticated bank of filters tuned to multiple frequencies, creating complex formant structures similar to drawbar organ harmonics. Users can now shape and morph between different overtone sets, producing unique and surreal sonic transformations.

Versatile Sound Design Tool

Flowstate allows users to import their own ambient recordings and apply formant filtering to create everything from atmospheric pads to evolving drones. The software includes multiple presets demonstrating the technique's full potential, with each Snapshot offering five distinct STATES for further sound manipulation.

The interface prioritizes experimentation and creative sound design, enabling users to discover new ways of "tuning the world" through their own audio material.
