Native Instruments Releases Absynth 6 Semi-Modular Synthesizer

Native Instruments Releases Absynth 6 Semi-Modular Synthesizer - AUDIO PLUGIN NEWS

Legendary Sound Design Tool Returns with Enhanced Features and MPE Support

Native Instruments has launched Absynth 6, marking the return of their acclaimed semi-modular synthesizer after years of development. The updated instrument combines multiple synthesis methods with enhanced modulation capabilities and modern production features, priced at $199 for new users and $99 for updates.

Hybrid Synthesis Engine

Absynth 6 features a three-oscillator hybrid engine that combines granular, FM, wavetable, and subtractive synthesis methods. The semi-modular architecture provides what Native Instruments describes as "structured unpredictability" with extensive routing possibilities through filters, modulators, and effects for complex timbre creation.

The updated sample editor offers streamlined control over loop points, playback modes, and wave-morphing capabilities, providing sample-based sound design tools that are rarely found so deeply integrated in software synthesizers.

Advanced Modulation and Envelope System

The instrument includes a 68-point envelope system offering looping, breakpoint curves, sustain stages, and time-synced transitions with dedicated modulation LFOs. This system extends far beyond traditional ADSR envelopes to enable evolving textures and rhythmic motion.

A new Preset Explorer feature helps users navigate sounds by sonic relationships rather than name-based browsing, presenting a visual landscape of tonal connections for faster discovery.

Creative Features and Preset Library

The Mutator function allows morphing between different presets to generate new variants instantly, maintaining a timeline of changes for quick recall and refinement. Absynth 6 includes over 2000 presets with more than 350 new additions, plus full backward compatibility with previous versions.

Signature granular effects include the Aetherizer for creating shimmering atmospheres and the Cloud Filter for spectral motion and coloration, designed to create ambient motion within mix contexts.

Surround Sound and MPE Support

Absynth 6 supports up to eight-channel surround formats including Quadraphonic, 5.1, and Octaphonic configurations with optional LFE routing. Each effect can be positioned independently in the sound field for immersive spatial audio applications.

Full MPE and polyphonic aftertouch support enables individual note control over modulation, morphing, and spatial placement. Integration with Kontrol keyboards, Maschine, and MPE-ready controllers transforms performance into dynamic soundscapes.

Artist Collaborations and Legacy

The development maintained collaboration with Brian Clevinger, who created the original Absynth, ensuring continuity with the instrument's established character while adding modern capabilities. Exclusive presets from artists including Brian Eno, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and Richard Devine are included in the library.

Availability and Compatibility

Absynth 6 is available now with pricing at $199 for new purchases and $99 for qualifying updates. A free trial is available through Native Instruments' 360 subscription service.
