McDSP Introduces Royal Mu Surround for Immersive Audio Processing

Professional Analog Processing Solution for Dolby Atmos and Beyond

McDSP Introduces Royal Mu Surround for Immersive Audio Processing - AUDIO PLUGIN NEWS

The Royal Mu Surround brings analog compression and limiting capabilities to immersive audio formats, including Dolby Atmos. This hardware-powered processor features dual-control chains with analog biasing, saturation, and equalization functionality.

Comprehensive Surround Format Support

The processor supports multiple surround configurations from 7.0.2 to 9.1.6, making it suitable for various immersive audio production environments. Each channel set - LR, Center, Side, Rear, Top, and LFE - can be independently controlled and processed.

Advanced Matrix Routing

A sophisticated 3-way bus matrix system enables flexible routing of channel sets between two independent compressor/limiter chains. The system incorporates key trim controls for precise adjustment of channel sensitivities, while maintaining sample-accurate automation.

Analog Processing Architecture

The Royal Mu Surround integrates three processing stages - biasing, compression, and limiting - in the APB hardware. A notable feature is the analog output trim for each channel set, positioned between the compressor and limiter stages, allowing for detailed mix adjustments and enhanced saturation control.

Mark Willsher, a producer and mix engineer, notes: "The Royal Mu Surround provides flexible channel grouping and the ability to drive lower level channels into saturation as needed, while retaining the scale and depth of the immersive sound field."

Price: Included with APB hardware purchase
Formats: AAX Native
