Impact Soundworks releases Super Audio Cart 2, a comprehensive sample library capturing retro video game sounds from over 30 years of gaming history. The Kontakt-based instrument features authentic sounds from 19 distinctive consoles, handhelds, and sound chips, ranging from the Atari 2600 (1977) to the Game Boy Advance (2001).
Authentic Hardware Recreation
Super Audio Cart 2 includes platforms previously unexplored in sample libraries, such as the Nintendo 64, SampleCell II, and PlayStation. The library encompasses both synthesis-based systems and PCM sample playback platforms, with sounds recreated from scratch using original hardware for maximum authenticity.
The development team created an "Impact Factory Library" (IFL) covering General MIDI sounds and more, recorded and edited to match mid-90s sampler characteristics, then re-sampled through original gaming hardware to achieve period-accurate sound reproduction.
Advanced Synthesis Engine
Beyond sample playback, Super Audio Cart 2 features a four-layer synthesizer architecture with independent settings per layer, including arpeggiator and sequencer functions. The instrument includes eight macro knobs, two XY pads, and a four-channel Console FX rack with over 40 effects modules.
The MODRIX modulation system provides comprehensive routing capabilities between multiple modulator types and virtually any control parameter, with adjustable curvature controls, min/max depth settings, and combinable routing assignments.
Comprehensive Platform Coverage
Featured platforms include classic systems like NES, SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive, Game Boy, Commodore 64, and Amiga 500, alongside lesser-known hardware such as VRC6/VRC7 Famicom expansions, AdLib synthesizer cards, and the ASCII MSX computer. Each platform maintains authentic sound characteristics while offering modern production capabilities.

Super Audio Cart 2 runs in the free Kontakt Player with VST, AU, and AAX format support. The library is available for $199 as a downloadable product with lifetime support and forever downloads.
