Saturation Plugin with BiasEQ Technology for Frequency-Specific Distortion
HOFA Plugins has released Colour Saturator, a saturation and distortion plugin using neural modeling algorithms. The plugin includes BiasEQ, a nine-band EQ that controls distortion intensity across different frequency ranges.
Saturation Models
Colour Saturator features 29 algorithms organized into categories: four microphone preamps, three tape machines, seven guitar and bass amps, six stompbox pedals, five pedal and amp combinations, four studio classics, and five legacy algorithms from HOFA's SYSTEM Saturator. The algorithms use neural modeling for detailed hardware recreation alongside CPU-efficient processing options.
BiasEQ Processing
The BiasEQ operates before the saturation stage with nine bands. Each frequency boost is automatically counterbalanced by a reduction after distortion, though bands can be unlinked for independent control. A fully parametric expert mode provides precise adjustments.
The BiasEQ enables frequency-specific saturation control. Users can saturate specific frequency ranges while leaving others clean, such as adding midrange distortion to bass while keeping low and high frequencies unaffected.
Additional Features
The input section includes dynamics control for limiting or intensifying signal dynamics, a tilt EQ for frequency balance, and wow and flutter effects for tape-style modulation. Noise, crackle, and hum can be added for retro characteristics. Hi and low cut filters shape the final output, and a dry/wet mixer enables parallel saturation processing.
Colour Saturator is available for €99 (regular price €129) and supports VST3, AU, and AAX formats on macOS 11 or later and Windows 10 or later. A 14-day free trial is available. More information is available on the HOFA Plugins website.
