Multi-Feature Compressor Combines Classic FET Sound with Built-In Saturation and Parallel Processing
Carve Audio has released Smashburger Compressor, a plugin that recreates classic FET compressor characteristics while adding modern control features. The compressor includes built-in saturation options, transient shaping, and parallel processing capabilities within a single interface.
FET Compressor Foundation
Smashburger delivers the fast, punchy sound characteristics of classic FET compressors designed to make drums and vocals prominent in the mix. The plugin expands on traditional FET designs with wider control ranges while maintaining the essential sonic character that defines this compressor style.
The compressor provides the aggressive attack and release characteristics associated with vintage FET units, suitable for applications requiring immediate transient control and mix presence.
Integrated Processing Features
The plugin includes built-in tube warmth, tape-style saturation, and drive options that add thickness and character without requiring additional plugins. These saturation options are designed to provide tonal enhancement directly within the compression stage.
A dedicated Shaper function serves as an integrated transient designer, allowing users to emphasize or reduce attack characteristics before compression processing. This feature enables fine-tuning of percussive elements and dynamic control over transient response.
Parallel Compression Control
Smashburger incorporates a dedicated Wet/Dry control for parallel compression processing, eliminating the need for duplicate tracks or bus routing. This feature enables access to aggressive "New York" style compression techniques while maintaining the natural dynamics of the original signal.
The parallel processing approach allows users to blend heavily compressed and unprocessed signals for enhanced punch while preserving musical dynamics.
Compatibility and Pricing
The plugin supports VST3, AU, and AAX formats on macOS 10.15 or higher and Windows 10, requiring at least 200MB of free drive space. The software is compatible with major DAWs supporting these plugin standards.
Smashburger Compressor is priced at $29 (reduced from $79) with a 14-day trial period available for evaluation. More information about Smashburger Compressor is available on the Carve Audio website.
