Arturia Unveils Free Augmented MALLETS Play Plugin

A Modern Take on Classic Mallet Instruments with Hybrid Synthesis

Arturia has released Augmented MALLETS Play, a virtual instrument that combines traditional mallet percussion with contemporary synthesis capabilities. This holiday season special offering is available as a free download until January 2nd, 2025.

Authentic Sampling Meets Modern Synthesis

The instrument features meticulously recorded samples of marimba, vibraphone, and celeste captured in a professional recording facility in the Netherlands. Using premium microphones like Neumann M150 tubes and Schoeps MK-series, both close and room microphones were employed to capture the natural resonance and character of these classical instruments.

These acoustic samples are complemented by four synthesis engines - Virtual Analog, Granular, Wavetable, and Harmonic - allowing users to create hybrid sounds that bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary tones.

Intuitive Sound Design with Morph Control

At the heart of Augmented MALLETS Play is the Morph control, enabling smooth transitions between acoustic and synthesized layers. This feature allows users to blend multiple parameters simultaneously, creating evolving soundscapes while maintaining the characteristic attack and resonance of mallet instruments.

Comprehensive Sound Library

The plugin comes with 50 carefully crafted presets spanning various musical styles. It includes 19 processed articulations, 11 natural and prepared articulations, and multiple sampling engines with built-in effects. The sound palette ranges from authentic wooden tones to experimental textures and atmospheric pads.
