PolyFreq has released Phonon, a modular granular synthesizer for macOS and Windows in VST3 and Standalone formats. It is currently available at a 33% launch discount for $59.63 (reg. $89), with a 30-day full-featured trial.
Phonon is built around a synchronous granular and graintable synthesis engine focused on precise, controllable reconstruction of source audio rather than randomization. It offers 8 voices of polyphony with up to 256 grains per voice and sub-sample precision. Root note detection, four keyboard follow modes, and separate grain rate and density controls give users detailed command over the sound. A drag-and-drop modulation workflow connects LFOs, envelopes, sequencers, sample metadata, and noise sources to any parameter.
The signal chain includes a saturating drive, resonant filtering, and a utility reverb. The interface is resizable with most controls immediately visible, and patches can be shared with sample embedding via eight-way snapshots.
