Funkastic Generates Funk Grooves Using Specialized AI Model - AUDIO PLUGIN NEWS

MIDI Pattern Generator Trained on Clavi Performances for Authentic Results

Sampleson has released Funkastic, an AI-powered MIDI groove generator trained on funk and soul keyboard performances. The plugin creates one-bar patterns designed for clavinet parts, with additional applications for electric pianos, organs, and bass lines.

Training and Generation

Funkastic uses a model trained on curated recordings from experienced funk and soul keyboardists. The training material includes hours of performed material from Sampleson's team and contributing musicians. The model captures performance characteristics including ghost notes, timing variations, and feel.

Users select generation parameters including Style (Creative, Flat 5th, Major 7, Pentatonic), Mode (Minor, Major, Dominant), Root note, Feel (Straight, Swing), Notes amount (Dense, Middle, Sparse), and Velocity Strength (High, Middle, Low). The Generate function creates new patterns based on these settings, while Variate produces rhythmic variations of existing patterns for consecutive bars.

Workflow Integration

Generated MIDI outputs as one-bar patterns that can be dragged into DAW tracks. The VST3 version syncs to DAW tempo and transport controls for previewing grooves in context. The plugin provides full MIDI output for controlling external instruments in real-time.

Funkastic runs locally without cloud connectivity or subscription requirements. The software operates as both a standalone application and VST3/AU plugin.

System Requirements

macOS version supports Apple Silicon (native) and Intel processors running 10.7 or later. Windows version requires Windows 7 or later in 64-bit configuration. Both platforms need 400 MB storage and 4 GB RAM. Pro Tools is not supported. Online activation is required.

The interface scales for Retina and 4K displays.

Funkastic is available for $49 ($29 introductory price).
