Enhanced Plugin Features Six Saturation Models and Instrument-Specific Processing
Drumforge has released DF-XCITE 2, an updated version of their harmonic exciter plugin designed for drum mix enhancement. The plugin targets adding life and vibrancy to drum recordings.
Six Saturation Engine Options
DF-XCITE 2 features six distinct saturation models, each providing different harmonic characteristics. The American model offers balanced enhancement with controlled harmonics, while Vintage provides smooth analog-style saturation. Extreme delivers aggressive processing for maximum impact, and Tape adds rounded analog compression with natural warmth.
The Tube model focuses on harmonically rich processing for depth and body, while Amp provides gritty, forward characteristics designed to cut through dense mixes. Each saturation type can be applied independently per frequency band for precise harmonic control.
Multi-Band and Single-Band Processing
The plugin offers two processing workflows to accommodate different mixing approaches. Multi-band mode provides four-band processing with independent Drive, Mix, and Saturation Type controls per frequency range for detailed tonal shaping. Single-band mode applies full-range harmonic enhancement across the entire signal for streamlined processing.
Users can switch between modes instantly to move from detailed frequency control to simplified full-spectrum saturation depending on the mixing context.
Instrument-Specific Optimization
DF-XCITE 2 includes pre-tuned modes that automatically optimize crossover points and frequency distribution for different source materials. Drum-specific modes include Metal Kick, Rock Kick, Metal Snare, Rock Snare, Toms, Overheads, Rooms, and Drum Bus settings.
Additional modes cover Bass, Guitar, Vocals, and Master Bus applications. These presets were developed by chart-topping mixers including Joey Sturgis and Joel Wanasek to provide optimal frequency targeting without manual crossover adjustment.
Crossover System Options
The plugin provides two crossover approaches for different mixing styles. Legacy Mode recreates the smooth, wide crossover curves of the original DF-XCITE for classic sound characteristics. Modern Mode employs sharper slopes for precise frequency separation and cleaner band interaction.
An integrated visual analyzer displays signals in real-time with draggable crossover points and per-band volume sliders for immediate feedback and control adjustments.
Technical Implementation
DF-XCITE 2 emphasizes low CPU usage to allow multiple instances without significant system impact. The streamlined interface focuses on workflow efficiency with logical control arrangement to reduce learning curves.
The plugin supports VST3, AU, and AAX formats with single-user perpetual licensing and three activations per purchase.
