Dual-Layer Instrument Combines Wavetable and Sample Oscillators for Fantasy Chimes
Ocean Swift Synthesis has released Tyrian Tine, a free Kontakt instrument designed for generating randomized bell and chime tones. The instrument features what the company describes as an "asymmetric dual-layer engine" that combines wavetable synthesis with curated metallic samples.
Hybrid Sound Engine Design
Tyrian Tine pairs a wavetable oscillator with purposeful instability and controlled randomization alongside a sample oscillator sourced from bells, kalimbas, music boxes, and other metallic sounds. The wavetable component includes morphing capabilities and musical randomization features.
The instrument includes 34 samples and 11 wavetables, with 73 presets covering sounds ranging from crystalline fantasy tones to what Ocean Swift describes as "gritty, bronze-like strikes and haloed sci-fi swells."
Performance and Control Features
The instrument offers immediate performance control through layer mixing, velocity response, modulation wheel control, and random modulation for dynamic movement. A focused effects section includes filter, tremolo, delay, and reverb processing to shape sounds from intimate to expansive characteristics.
Ocean Swift positions the instrument for ambient music, fantasy and sci-fi scoring, game audio, and sound design applications where otherworldly bell sounds are needed.
NKS Integration and Hardware Control
Tyrian Tine includes full NKS and NKS2 mappings for Native Instruments' Komplete Kontrol and Maschine hardware. The instrument provides detailed parameter control on Kontrol Mk3 keyboards, with nearly all interface parameters accessible through the hardware display.
The NKS2 implementation offers what Ocean Swift describes as "unprecedented control" with visual feedback and streamlined workflow integration for supported hardware users.
Accessibility and Compatibility
The instrument operates with the free Kontakt Player, eliminating the need for the full Kontakt 8 version. Installation and activation occur through Native Instruments' Native Access system for straightforward setup.
Ocean Swift describes the instrument's sonic character as existing "where chapel glass meets starship hulls," emphasizing its suitability for atmospheric and cinematic applications.
Availability
Tyrian Tine is available as a free download with lifetime updates included. The instrument supports standard Kontakt Player requirements and integrates with Native Instruments' ecosystem.
