Professional Version Features Traditional Controls and Analog-Style Soft Clipping Section
Goodhertz has launched Vulf Compressor Mastering Edition (VCME), a professional variant of the acclaimed Vulf Compressor designed specifically for mastering and bus processing applications. The new version retains the original's vari-mu characteristics while adding traditional compression controls and advanced features.
Enhanced Control Architecture
Unlike the original Vulf Compressor's three-control design, VCME incorporates classic compression parameters including ratio, threshold, makeup gain, and sidechain high-pass filtering. This expanded control set makes the plugin more accessible to engineers familiar with traditional compressor interfaces while maintaining the distinctive Vulf compression character.
The plugin includes a release "style" control that allows selection between opto, FET, or intermediate characteristics, providing flexibility in compression behavior and timing response.
Integrated Soft Clipping Section
VCME features a dedicated analog soft clipping section following the compression stage, designed to prevent digital overs while adding harmonic saturation. The soft clipping module offers four distinct modes: Chino for hi-fi tube characteristics, Rødovre for smooth tube-style warmth, Detroit for grungy textures, and Melbourne for British transformer saturation.
This soft clipping section has been released as a standalone plugin, VCME Soft Clip, included free with VCME purchases.
Advanced Processing Features
The plugin introduces sidechain tilt functionality, described as the first completely linear spectral tilt for sidechain processing. This feature allows precise control over frequency-dependent compression response, often eliminating the need for separate de-essers or multiband compressors.
VCME supports extensive stereo and surround linking capabilities with M/S and surround modes. The plugin maintains transparent frequency response, ensuring the spectrum remains unaffected by compression processing.
Professional Recognition
The original Vulf Compressor has gained widespread adoption across various musical contexts, from lo-fi beat tapes to Hollywood film scores and major label productions. Legendary mixer Michael Brauer described the original as looking "like a Volvo" on the outside while being "a monster truck" under the hood.
Compatibility and Pricing
VCME is priced at $199 with a 25% discount available for existing Vulf Compressor owners when logged into their Goodhertz accounts. The plugin includes a 30-day free trial period and comes with the standalone VCME Soft Clip plugin at no additional cost.
