New Plugin Features Independent Low and High Frequency Tape-Style Processing
Purafied Audio has released the Purafied 5420, a harmonic processing plugin that uses dual independent engines to handle low and high frequencies separately. The plugin recreates tape's frequency-dependent behavior rather than applying uniform processing across the entire spectrum.
Dual-Engine Architecture
The 5420 splits audio into separate frequency bands, each processed by its own harmonic engine. This approach addresses what the company identifies as a limitation in traditional tape emulations that treat the entire frequency spectrum uniformly. The plugin allows independent control over how low and high frequencies respond to harmonic processing.
Each engine offers 15 IPS and 30 IPS modes, with 15 IPS providing thick, grounded characteristics and 30 IPS delivering open, sparkling qualities. Independent THD controls shape the harmonic content of each frequency band, while character knobs provide bias-like control over saturation levels.
Control Features
The crossover control allows precise frequency split placement, while a blend knob adjusts the overall processing amount. Link controls enable simultaneous adjustment of both engines when unified control is preferred. Auto gain compensation maintains consistent levels throughout processing.
The plugin includes oversampling up to 16x for high-quality processing and supports screen resolutions from 1024 x 768 upward. The interface focuses on musical control rather than technical tape machine emulation parameters.
Availability and Compatibility
Purafied 5420 supports VST3, AU, and AAX formats on macOS (including M1 native support) and VST3/AAX on Windows 64-bit systems. The plugin requires macOS 10.7 or higher (10.13+ recommended), Windows 7 or above, and 4GB of RAM with a 1 GHz dual-core processor.
