Rob Papen Releases DelGrain Granular Delay Plugin - AUDIO PLUGIN NEWS

Creative Delay Effect Combines Granular Processing with Flexible Routing Options

Rob Papen has announced DelGrain, a granular delay plugin that processes audio through adjustable grain sizes and lengths. The effect builds on the company's DelSane delay framework while introducing granular synthesis capabilities for rhythmic and creative applications.

Granular Processing Architecture

DelGrain offers flexible granular processing placement within the delay chain. Users can position the granular effect before the delay, inside the delay loop, after the delay, or in parallel configuration. This routing flexibility allows for different sonic characteristics depending on the chosen signal path.

The plugin features adjustable grain sizes with tempo-based synchronization options. Grain length can also sync to host tempo, while a SEMI tune feature provides pitch adjustment across a 24-semitone range for chromatic granular effects.

Additional Processing Modules

A distortion module processes audio before it enters the granular delay section, expanding the sonic possibilities for more aggressive textures. The plugin includes comprehensive filtering with high-pass and low-pass combinations, band-pass filtering, and a vocal/vowel filter that can be positioned at various points in the signal chain.

DelGrain incorporates the Disrupt Sphere control system from DelSane, providing creative parameter manipulation through its unique interface. This feature enables dynamic control over multiple granular and delay parameters simultaneously.

Applications and Compatibility

The granular delay design makes DelGrain particularly suited for rhythmic applications on drums and percussion loops. The tempo-based granular processing creates rhythmic patterns that sync with the host DAW. The effect also processes vocals and sound effects for creative audio manipulation beyond traditional delay applications.

DelGrain is available for €35/$35 with demo versions provided for evaluation. More information about DelGrain is available on the Rob Papen website.
