Official Hardware Converter Emulation with X-FORMER II and EMPHASIS
Acustica Audio has released the Dangerous Music CONVERT-AD+, developed in collaboration with Dangerous Music Digital and Studio DMI. The plugin models the hardware converter's sonic signature, dynamic behavior, and tone-shaping features.
X-FORMER II and EMPHASIS
The plugin includes modeling of Hammond transformers for analog weight and depth. EMPHASIS provides analog-style EQ and compression for warmth and harmonic coloration. These sections recreate the hardware's tonal characteristics and musical response.
Gain Fracturing and Clip Guard
CONVERT-AD+ features gain fracturing that enables controlled digital clipping beyond 0 dBFS. Clip Guard technology allows driving levels hard without triggering false digital clipping alerts in DAW meters. The system provides musical limiting behavior modeled after the hardware converter.
Metering and Control
Custom metering replicates the hardware's display with zoom views for precise dynamics monitoring. Three calibration levels adjust metering accuracy and gain staging flexibility. The interface shows active sample rate to confirm session alignment. Dual source input allows instant A/B comparison between stereo chains and signals.
Wordclock Modeling
The wordclock section can be bypassed to introduce micro-jitter for creative texture. This models the timing variations that can occur in analog conversion and adds subtle movement to the signal.
CONVERT-AD+ is available for €155 and supports VST3, AAX, and AU formats on macOS and Windows. A 30-day free trial is available through Acustica's Aquarius Desktop manager. More information is available on the Acustica Audio website.
