High-Gain Thrash Metal Amplifier Designed with Nikos Sarbanis
George Nerantzis has released Sarban Amp, a guitar amplifier plugin developed in collaboration with guitarist Nikos Sarbanis. The plugin focuses on old-school thrash metal tones with fast response, tight low end, and clear midrange.
Amplifier Design
The high-gain circuit is voiced for downpicking, fast alternate picking, and metal rhythm work. The tone emphasizes punchy midrange and solid palm-mutes without harsh high frequencies. The plugin includes an integrated booster for tightening the front end and a gate tuned for clean stops and precise chugging under high gain.
Cabinet Section
Sarban Amp includes impulse responses captured from SM Custom Cabinets loaded with Celestion V30 speakers. The IRs were recorded at Mousiki Paleta Studio using a clean signal chain. Multiple cabinet voicings are available for different mixing contexts.
Interface and Workflow
The plugin features a straightforward interface without layered menus. The design centers on core amp controls, essential processing tools, and cabinet selection. According to the developer, the amplifier was tested directly with Sarbanis to ensure the tone responds to playing dynamics rather than relying on preset processing.
Sarban Amp is available for $14.99 and currently supports VST3 format on Windows, with macOS support planned. The plugin is 6.88 MB and includes free updates. More information is available on George Nerantzis' Gumroad page.
