Canvas Audio has released Mixtape, a cassette saturation plugin that combines tape warmth with compression and analog character. The plugin recreates the sound of cassette playback, including the harmonic distortion and air captured during recording.
Saturation and Compression
Mixtape features linkable input drive and output trim controls, allowing users to add saturation without being misled by volume changes. The plugin includes a one-knob auto-gain compressor designed to add thickness while maintaining consistent levels.
The saturation circuit models cassette tape characteristics, adding harmonic bloom and gentle compression to digital signals. This processing can be applied to individual tracks or full mixes.
Tape Effects
The plugin offers tape drift for pitch modulation and a tape quality control that adjusts the amount of analog degradation. A tape stop effect simulates the sound of a cassette deck powering down, while a noise toggle adds tape hiss for additional vintage character.
These controls provide quick access to cassette-style processing without complex parameter adjustments.
