Rare and Inspiring Instruments Expand Traditional Orchestral Palette

Spitfire Audio has released Symphonic Extras, a collection of distinctive orchestral instruments recorded at London's AIR Lyndhurst Hall. This library features an array of tuned and untuned percussion instruments, from the metallic resonance of the Aluphone to the ethereal whispers of the Hg2O waterphone.
The collection includes expertly sampled instruments performed by London's top session musicians. A prepared piano offers unique timbres and experimental techniques, while the baroque harpsichord, performed by Stephen Divine, captures every nuance of this historic instrument. Steel drums, played by Frank Ricotti, deliver sounds ranging from gentle, mellow tones to bright metallic textures.
The Aluphone, a unique instrument made of tuned aluminum bells, is performed by legendary percussionist Paul Clarvis. The Cimbalom, played by Greg Knowles of Hunger Games and Lord of the Rings fame, cuts through orchestral arrangements with its distinctive timbre.
Experimental Percussion Collection
The library features an innovative collection of scraped percussion sounds created by Paul Clarvis, including unconventional items like bicycle wheels and polystyrene cups. The Hg2O, Spitfire's interpretation of the classic waterphone, moves beyond horror film clichés to reveal inspiring new sonic possibilities.
Recording Environment
All instruments were recorded in AIR Studios' Lyndhurst Hall, renowned for its acoustic properties and used in numerous blockbuster scores. This ensures perfect integration with other Spitfire orchestral libraries while maintaining consistent sound quality across the collection.
